Non-diet soda pulled from many schools
I applaud a move to pull non-diet soda from schools in favor of water, juice and low-fat milk.
I also applaud the William J. Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association for helping to broker a deal with beverage suppliers and schools.
However, why only non-diet sodas? Granted, regular soda has lots of sugar and obesity advocates are glad to see them leave the schools. But diet sodas contain things like Nutrasweet and Splenda, artificial sweeteners which have proven to be be toxic.
Frankly, I'd rather my child drink corn syrup than aspartame. And that's not a joke.
I'm glad we are awaking to the dangers of obesity in our culture, but when will similar attention be paid to the needless chemicals we consume, which are damaging us in ways we cannot even see?
