More agreement on Idol

A Washington Post writer agrees with me that America missed the boat in voting off Chris Daughtry.  She says he was on the only with the personality and the talent together, and she dismisses the other three as nice people with nice voices, but definitely a step below Chris.

Amen.

Chris' revenge will be his career after Idol.

In a very interesting article in the New York Post, John Podhoretz compares the voting on Idol to the working of American politics.  He says Daughtry got booted off because he was popular from the start but failed to broaden his base.  Due to his unique style and personality, he did not appeal to enough of middle Americans.

In short, he implies Chris was too good and too distinctive to appeal to the middle.

Instead, as their favorites were voted off week after week, other singers, like Elliot, Taylor and Katherine, picked up new fans, but Chris did not.

Hmm.  I know Idol is only a TV show, but if this picture of American politics is accurate, it explains how we got John Kerry and Michael Dukakis.
