More war on terror

Speaking at West Point's graduation, President Bush said the US will fight terrorism like it fought the Cold War, around the globe.

"America will fight the terrorists on every battlefront. And we will not rest until this threat to our country has been removed," the commander in chief said in his commencement address at the U.S. Military Academy.

"Against such an enemy there is only one effective response: We will never back down, we will never give in, and we will never accept anything less than complete victory," Bush said.

How many of us still believe this?

Or, like me, do you think the war on terror is more like the war on drugs?  Both are based on human emotion, not a recognizable enemy like a Hitler or Napoleon.  Fear and addiction are not quite so easy to pin down and might not even be possible to defeat.

The best defense against a terror campaign is to stop the fear.  The more we feed out fear, the more we empower the "enemy".  If there is no fear, there is no problem.  And since 9/11, what terrorist attacks on American soil have their been?

Like most of his policies, Bush's war on terror is misguided.  It's an example of a personal ideology clashing horribly with a nation's welfare.
