"time" dominates English

Anyone who lives in the modern world shouldn't be surprised at this.  The Oxford English Dictionary has compiled the most common words in English.

The usual suspects are at the top:  the, be, to, of, in  ...

The most fascinating statistic though is the list of the top 25 nouns:  time, person, year, way, day, thing, man, world, life, hand, part, child, eye, woman, place, work, week, case, point, government, company, number, group, problem, fact.

Notice that time is number 1, year is 2, day is 5, and week is 17.

Time is number 1?  Who knew we were so focused on the clock and the ticking away of our lives?

Well, I guess I did if I really was honest about it.  In fact, I've been feeling things are speeding up lately.  Have you noticed that?  Time slips by faster than it used to.  Very little time seems to exist after my commitments.  I'm always rushing from one appointment to another.  Deadlines dominate my days.

Is this anyway to live?  I'm beginning to think no.
