Gas mileage

Martin Frost writes an interesting column for the Foxnews website about his decision to buy a Japanese hybrid car after owning American for over 40 years, and he did so in the name of fuel economy.

I have to applaud him.  With gas prices at $3+ a gallon, I am proud to say I own a Honda, and would gladly buy Japanese again for the very same reasons:  the cars last forever and they simply get more miles to the gallon.

When will Americans learn that this is something valued by consumers?  When the big 3 automakers are bankrupt and Toyota dominates automaking forever?

It's time to wake up.  We need to sink less money into refining the Hummer and more into making affordable hybrids.  Otherwise, consumers like myself and Mr. Frost will be lost forever.

You are already lost forever. I don't fault someone for purchasing an import - I own one myself but your dismissal of american cars demonstrates a certain level of ignorance. Have you looked into mileage information for GM cars? Just because they offer large SUVs doesn't mean that they haven't come out with a great deal of high mileage cars recently. My guess is that you aren't up to date on their offerigns. Oh and by the way, its still up to consumers which vehicles they want. Apparentl $3 per gallon gas is not detering consumption so lets all just stop with the bellyaching. Vote with your wallet or just shut up people.
