RIAA getting desparate

It's ugly when business models die.

The RIAA is defending a system that is slowly going away, and they know it.

Their desperation explain their actions, which are getting increasingly crazy.

Take this report from FoxNews from this past January.

In it, a lawyer for the RIAA suggests that people who have ripped copies of CDs they have legally purchased might be liable to criminal charges.

Say what?

There are only two ways to get music on an IPod: download it online (legally or illegally) or rip it from CDs you already own.

The copyright laws have always traditionally allowed for the making of copies of materail one has purchased as long as the copies were for personal use.  Ripping a CD I bought so I can listen to it on my IPod definitely falls in that category.

If the RIAA thinks they can now attack this, they are insane.  Not only will they lose their remaining customers, but they will be disgraced in court.

Yes, it is ugly to watch the record companies die, but they are doing just that.

Earlier this week, hypocrite rockers Metallica admitted they might consider an online release ala Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails when their contract with Warner Brothers is up.

Turn out the lights, the party's over......
